NaNoWriMo 2005

My second foray into the craziness that is NaNoWriMo. After the previous year’s loss, I was determined to win for 2005. And well, I did! :) Wohoo!
Read Excerpt from Chapter 4 here!
Word Count: 66,031
Pages: 106 pages (MS Word, Garamond, font size 12, single spaced, normal margins)
Summary:
Isaac and Rebekah have been best friends ever since they were babies. Their parents viewed their friendship as Biblical — as in Isaac and Rebekah from the Bible type of relationship. This made the two of them as the end of countless jokes and set ups that their parents are making to make the two of them fall for each other.
Through some twist of fate, Isaac and Rebekah had to go to different high schools, thus leaving each other alone to face what everyone says is the “best years” of a person’s life. As they go through the next four years of their life separately, what will happen? Will they finally end up together, as what their parents have planned from the start? Will their friendship stay the same? Will Rebekah find someone else? Will someone find Isaac?
I got the idea for this novel one day while talking to a friend. I wondered of a friendship between two people from the opposite sex which is totally platonic, but everyone else is teasing them about it. And then what if they got together, but broke up again and then they’re just total friends? I played with the idea, picked up characteristics from other people I know and got this. =) I finished it way before the end of the NaNo deadline, and finished the novel itself around April of 2006.
I liked this novel more than the previous one because even if I based the people here on people I know in real life (don’t ask who, I won’t tell :P), none of these events actually happened so I really made use of my imagination. I really like the ending of this one too — creative, I must say. :P
Some interesting facts:
- The novel’s title is based on A Page is Turned by Bebo Norman. At first it felt like a corny title, but as I wrote it, it actually fit the novel to a T.
- Other songs I listened to while writing these are mainly Bebo Norman and Aaron Benward songs.
- Although it may sound like the characters are in Manila, they’re not. I planned to have them in some other province in the country but I never got around to defining it.
- I planned to have a typical ending — another girl, but then another idea hit me in the middle of the night. :P What is that ending? Well, you’d have to read the whole thing to find out. :)
