Writings

Like any other kid out there, I also dreamed of being a doctor when I was young. I also wanted to become a singer, a dancer, a nun and even a housemaid (long story, if you want to know, leave me a message. :p). Then I wanted to be a teacher, and that lasted a bit long. Around Grade 3, I got introduced to Elizabeth Wakefield of Sweet Valley (Kids), and that was when I started to want to become a writer. That was my first real ambition ever, and ever since Grade 6, I’ve been writing story after story after story that I can manage. :D I didn’t choose a course that is related to my literary pursuits, but I still continued to write as much as I can.

I can’t say I’m a good writer — in fact, most of the things I wrote before make me gag right now. Haha. But as they say, there’s no harm in trying so I still write. :) I just finished my second NaNoWriMo novel, planning for the third, and currently sidelining as a freelance writer in FiSH and Didache under Shepherd’s Voice Publications. I still dream of being able to publish a book sometime in the future, and I will work on that. Watch out for it. :P

So here are some of my best works, for you to read and criticize (yes, you may, but please be nice). :P Click on the title to read the story. If you are a bit lost, just look at the sidebar and there’s a list of the writings I posted here. You may click there to navigate around the pages.

I ask you please to respect my rights as a writer and not to use any of these stories in any way unless you have my full permission. If you want to use this somewhere — publish it in a book, magazine, your blog or just plain emailing it to others, please contact me and we’ll talk about it. Okay?

Enjoy!

  • After All This Time - This is a story of two phone pals who have never seen each other, a missed concert, some feelings and a song lyric. Diane invites Jason to a concert and cancels, but Jason feels like he should be seeing more in how Diane invited him. Written Valentine’s 2001.
  • After the Rain - After a series of “misfortunes”, the rain comes as if to mock her. A spur-of-the-moment story, which tells of how even the hardest rain cannot wash away His love for us. :)
  • Lunch - A seemingly wrong answer over a simple question can bring some kind of regret. Spur of the moment but based on a true story. ;)
  • Overlooking - A story I wrote for Binibini E-zine, regarding my upcoming high school graduation. This is something I wish I did before graduating.
  • Secrets of the Red Swing - Everyone has their own childhood place that has witnessed the secrets of the people who played there as they grew up. This is a submission for Malate Literary Folio that got rejected (edited big time). The red swing is based on a real red swing where my friends and I used to hang out and talk a lot.
  • Shooting Star - A second-person point of view story about closure — talking about possible lost friendships, old unrequited love feelings and shooting stars over beer.
  • Super Friend - Kiara broods over her grades and her unrequited love and retreats to a coffee shop. Another story about closure.
  • Testify - An almost-published article about cleaning a drawer and a dusty and curious-looking bracelet.
  • Your Smile - Written during a boring class, this is about how a person’s smile can change everything and nothing at the same time.
  • i like you but i love Him - The battles of the will and the heart over a love and another Love.
  • NaNoWriMo 2004: Shooting Stars - my first try in the crazy thing called National Novel Writing Month.
  • NaNoWriMo 2005: A Page is Turned - my first winning entry in NaNoWriMo.
  • NaNoWriMo 2006: Fall Like Rain - my current project, hoping to be finished before NaNoWriMo 2007 sometime soon.
  • NaNoWriMo 2007: Red Meets Blue - my 2007 project, which I really found a hard time writing for some reason. I’ve got my one and only excerpt up on this post, and I’m thinking of making this a screenplay for Script Frenzy 2008. Let’s see where that idea brings me. :D
  • Bitesized Fiction - a separate blog just for writing — short bursts of fiction written on a whim.
