Aslan, the black MacBook

MacBookExactly one month ago, I posted an entry asking for help about me looking for THE ONE laptop. Truth be told, the day before I posted that, I was already looking at something, but I just need some more convincing for me to follow through. I actually based the specs I listed in that post from the specs of the MacBook, which pretty much fits what I wanted. But I wasn’t sure if I should get one, because I don’t know if I could use it. Especially after I told my friend that I’d never get a MacBook, because I’m PC FOREVAH! That, and I am working for a company that pretty much set the PC standards…so why switch?

But after some reading, and watching commercials, and lots more reading on making a switch…I have to admit: I’m in love. I love how it’s just…complete. How shiny and pretty it looks. How it’s so stable. And how I will not be having a problem on looking for a laptop that has Windows XP and not Vista, since most of the laptops here just have Vista (which is really…blah). And with the confirmations from friends that it can run PHP (Hello MAMP!) and Flash, I knew it was THE ONE laptop for me. :)

I initially planned to buy something at the end of the year, not one month later…but I’m definitely not complaining now.

So my friends, I’d like you all to meet ASLAN, the black MacBook. My black MacBook. :D

AslanBad lighting for the photo, I know. :P

One of my goals during the Singapore trip last weekend was to get myself a MacBook. Friends were telling me that the gadgets in Singapore are cheaper (way cheaper than a lot of things, even shirts, really), and so I told myself if I could save at least PHP 5,000 off the MacBook, then I’ll get one there. True enough, on the second day of our stay there, I found a Premium Reseller that sells MacBooks for really cheap price, with promos included. I planned to get the white MacBook with 2.16Ghz C2D and 120GB HDD (which, if I buy from their store, would be upgraded to Leopard and 2GB RAM), but when I got there last Sunday, it was all out of stock. :( The only choice I have is the lower model and the black one. I don’t want the lower model because the HD is insufficient, and the black one is okay, but it’s a bit too expensive already.

But then it’s either I get one or not, and my mom told me not to worry about the expenses, as long as I pay for it of course. After looking at the black MacBook, I decided to go for it. It may not look as pretty and girly as the white one, but it definitely looks sexy. :D

The MouseAslan came with a $120 store voucher, which I used to buy accessories for him: a laptop sleeve, trackpad protector, a mouse (see photo) and 2GB USB flash drives (one went to my brother). I got the flash drives because there’s no iSkin, and there’s nothing else I can buy. Hee. Everything looks so pretty and sexy that I even brought the box home — I folded it to fit in my check in luggage and assembled it back home. :P

MacBox

Oh, and although Aslan still has Tiger, it came with a Leopard DVD. Coolness. :)

I’m getting used to this now, and I find it funny that when I’m at work, my mouse tends to do Mac things as well, like try to close the window by clicking at the left hand side of the window. Heh. :P

Why Aslan? If you watched The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe movie, there was a scene there where Aslan’s troops were about to face the queen’s at war. Peter was right at front, and right before they attacked, he shouted, “For Narnia! And for Aslan!”

There was this time when my thesismates and I were discussing about an unfinished business that we have to finish for us to get paid some moolah, and my thesismate and I were motivating ourselves in working on the project by saying, “For the Macbook!” Then I remembered that Narnia line and it stuck, hence the name Aslan. :)

I got Aslan at the EpiCentre@Suntec at Suntec Mall, Singapore for S$2488. I got a free discount card for their stores too, which means I should go back within a year to at least use it once. ;)
