Happy Numbers

I found this link while reading Massa P’s latest entry: happy numbers. Say that again?

I’ve read of perfect numbers from Rom, but happy numbers? Happy numbers? Since when is a number happy? Heck, when was anything in relation to Math happy? (Well, okay fine, Math did had it bright moments in my memories, but not always)

According to Wikipedia, a happy number is:

A happy number is defined by the following process: starting with any positive integer, the following process can be applied: replace the number by the sum of the squares of its digits, and repeat the process until the number equals 1 (where it will stay), or it loops endlessly in a cycle which does not include 1.

For example:

72 = 49
42 + 92 = 97
92 + 72 = 130
12 + 32 + 02 = 10
12 + 02 = 1

That kind of makes sense. Let’s try another one, a bigger number. Like…365.

32 + 62 + 52 = 70
72 + 02 = 7
72 = 49
42 + 92 = 97
92 + 72 = 130
12 + 32 + 02 = 10
12 + 02 = 1

Excuse me for being so geeky…but coolness!

And if there’s a happy number, apparently, there also is an unhappy number. Like, 366.

32 + 62 + 62 =81
82 + 12 = 65
62 + 52 = 61
62 + 12 = 37
32 + 72 = 58
52 + 82 = 89

And so on…

Well that was cool. However, this statement kind of made me feel like someone’s pulling my leg with this entire happy number thing:

If a number is happy, then all members of its sequence are happy; if a number is unhappy, all members of its sequence are unhappy.

Um. Right. Doesn’t that sound like a joke to you or something?

Anyway, just some randomness this Friday. I’m semi-sick, but I think I managed to get out of the fever zone but now my nose is stuffed and my throat is still scratchy…but I’ll survive. Total rest this weekend, definitely. :)

Happy Number Friday, everyone!

Overflowing Flood

Rain rain on my face,
It hasn’t stopped raining for days
My world is a flood
Slowly I become one with the mud
- Flood, Jars of Clay

So the rain didn’t let up today, and I woke up with rain pouring hard on the roof and the village entrance flooded. I got to work safe and sound, thanks to my brother and headed for the Customer Service Training. The training was fun, much thanks to our being “fast learners” (Which reminds me, I forgot to bring the booklet home! I have homework for that! Argh!). Back at the office, I finished some work, learned some sad news and then wondered how bad the flood is at our village gate.

Then the strangest thought/wish hit me: I wish it wouldn’t rain so hard anymore so I would be able to go to work tomorrow.

Followed by: I WANT TO GO TO WORK TOMORROW!

Real Time and Colour

Yes, just for that title, I’m going to go for the British (or Australian, since that came from an Aussie song) spelling of color. Hello, colour. :)

It’s been raining since last night. I suppose this is real rain, as opposed to the cloud seeding thing they’ve been doing for the past days, right? Because it’s been raining all day. And you know what, I miss this weather. I used to love this kind of weather, but because of college and its commuting woes (plus the sentimentality of it all), plus the fact that I don’t get out of school easily then (we need to be flown up into the air before the school decides to call off classes), I started disliking the rain. Now, despite the difficulty of me going to and from work, and the ickiness on the feet once I stepped accidentally on a puddle…I think I am actually starting to like it. :)

Yep, rain is good. :)

Last night was our first bowling game for the company’s sportsfest. Nerves, pressure and a whole lot of cheering and fun for the entire team, and what do you know, we won! We had a pretty good score at the start (and yes, I wasn’t playing yet), and then during the second game they won, but we had a 200 point lead so we won! Can’t believe it! To think I was already so down on myself for sucking so much last Saturday…but playing last night was fun! Albeit a bit pressuring especially when you have the lowest score among the entire team…but it’s still fun! Next match is on the 20th. Wish us luck? :)

Tomorrow I have a whole day training with three other teammates, and then a trip to the old office to pay off some debts (hihi) and meet up with a Switchfoot ticket buyer. As much as I am starting to like the weather, I do wish I don’t have to travel in the rain tomorrow so my taxi fare won’t reach over a hundred. My remaining funds for the next days until the next salary is going down because of all the cabs I am taking. Hmph. But then, it’s almost payday!

Up and coming!

  • Get boxing gloves and start going to the boxing gym with Kuya.
  • Work on Godchicks layout revamp.
  • Sell (more) Switchfoot in Manila concert tickets.
  • Post more to Mission: Sydney
  • 2nd bowling match (August 20!)
  • Attend one badminton session w/ officemates (gimme time, please?)
  • Buy new shoes :P
  • Team outing (please let this push through :D)

All in all? Life’s good. :) Nothing gray, just real time and colour. Yes Brooke, I’d say exactly the same thing. :)

Waste Another Day

I slept with a bad right eye. It feels a bit swollen, like an insect bit it and it hurts below the eye when you touch it or blink rapidly. It may be something I shouldn’t worry about, but my teammate, Grace, got an eye infection two weeks ago, so I can’t be too careful.

So I went to three different clinics from Galleria (Switchfoot ticket payment pickup) to Eastwood (Bowling practice) to Sta. Lucia to get my eye checked up. Clinic # 1 apparently doesn’t accept cards, Clinic # 2 doesn’t have an ENT for today (even if the girl told me the ENT would be there by 4:00 pm, hmph) and Clinic # 3 also don’t have the ENT in office. Boo. I hope this is really just an insect bite and not an eye infection and I hope this is gone by tomorrow so I won’t have to go to check up. Please Lord?

The past week, I’ve been soundtripping on the same songs over and over again. This soundtripping is because I’m bordering on being emo — something that I so am not. I hate being emo, I hate being sentimental and whatnot. Being emo means there’s something to be emo about…and no comment on that.

Yihee, issue! NOT.

Anyway, I want to share the songs I’ve been sound tripping on and maybe I’d find someone who is also singing the same songs somewhere out there (and gosh, that is like, so emo. Eep).

1. Symphony of a Blasé by Anberlin
“God if You can hear me out alright, please take these feelings for her inside.” Aaaargh. Anberlin, why do you write the best lines?

2. Dismantle.Repair by Anberlin
“If life had a background music playing your song, I’ve got to be honest, I tried to escape you, but the orchestra plays on.” Again, Anberlin, your lines are like, swak.

3. A Day Late by Anberlin
“But I must confess you’re so much more than I remember, can’t help but entertain these thoughts, thoughts of us together.” Not really relatable on my part, but I love these lines. :)

4. Downtown Song by Anberlin (yes, I love this band)
“And I wonder if you can relate to nights upon my pillowcase, eyes wide open middle of the night, you’re the last thing on my mind.” Awww.

And finally, the only lady in the bunch…

5. Waste Another Day by Brooke Fraser
Much thanks to Happy for the heads up on this song. Love, love, love this song! Since there’s so many wonderful lines in this song, I’ll be posting the whole lyrics, and you may listen to the song too! I leave you with this lovely song under the cut. :) Good night friends!

On Credit Cards

Just last week, I paid my biggest credit card bill - a whopping 8+k. Well, it might below for others who has more than 10k (and sometimes even more than 100k) in their credit cards, but for someone who is still in the process of financial stability and is still on entry level, that’s a big one already, for a month. Blame it on the stolen cellphone I replaced before I left my old company. Plus all my other luxuries, such as an expensive haircut and pedicure before starting my new job (too expensive, really, but I have no choice), and the books (which I really don’t regret)…is this how it is when I start “growing up” and be more responsible for my finances?

I wasn’t supposed to pay the full amount of the bill just so I won’t go over the 50% expenses share for my first salary in my new company, but the things I purchased do not have the 0% credit cards interest thing, the one we used to buy our new iPods. After much debate and help from my brother, I decided to pay for it whole, just so I won’t have to think of the debt until next month. Paying for the entire thing sure felt great, even if I know it made a huge dent on the money I have in the bank. I guess it’s okay, since my next salary is only in a short time. :D

I know a lot of people say that credit cards make them worse people in regards to spending…but I think it’s the contrary for me. I don’t know, but having my own credit card has somewhat made me more aware of my expenses, and helped me to learn how to budget. So maybe having a credit card is not always such a bad thing…yes? Feel free to disagree with me though. ;)

I still have to learn about these 0% balance transfers and maybe eventually compare credit cards when I decide to expand to having two plastic cards in my wallet instead of one (the other one I have really doesn’t count since it’s a supplementary card). Right now, it’s nearing my cut off, and I’m happy because I know my credit card bill for the next month is below 2K. Yeahba. :)
