Anonymous Online

Alright, I have a confession to make. During my first job, our network administrators made sure some specific websites are blocked, which unfortunately, are the things I need to have for my online life to survive (and for me not to die of boredom when I’m not doing anything at work). Which is why we all discovered proxies, and other tunnels so we could access some of the websites to kill boredom (i.e. Friendster, Multiply, etc). Of course, the network admin found those proxies and tunnels too, so that ends our surfing days. :( Yes, I know that’s not an attitude of a model employee, but please excuse me for being a newbie at work.

But here’s something interesting. Instead of using a tunnel/proxy through the browser, Hide My IP Address provides another version of a Firefox browser with other security addons which hide IP address of the user. Okay, for sure companies wouldn’t allow this to be used in their computers as it is counterproductive, but this would be useful for other people who surf a lot at home since it provides more security. See, the Internet is hardly anonymous — your IP address reveals your online identity, most especially your location. Hide My IP Address secures you from that, helping you surf the net anonymously, stopping anyone with bad intentions to get to you.

These days one can’t afford not to be secure. So go now and type http://www.hide-my-ip-address.com on your browser to find out more about Hide My IP Address. :)

I use software at home that hides my IP when I want to hide my IP. It’s useful when I’m logging on to work computers, remotely. I don’t necessarily want my company to know that I’m working at home so late at night.
